New year’s resolutions are good. Maybe you have some such as, eating healthy, practicing more self care, praying more. These things are great and you should make the effort to do these things, our greatest responsibility we have is to “preach the Gospel” (Mark 16:15)
- "He said to them, 'Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.'"
While in some seasons of our life, preaching the Gospel will be smooth for us, we’re also commanded to preach the Gospel even out of season (2 Timothy 4:2). "Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction"
Preaching the Gospel can be done through the actual message of Christ, our actions, our language, and our daily disciplines that can be seen by others. As representatives of Jesus Christ, every day we have the opportunity to draw someone closer to Him, by acting in the way He acted. Someone who may resent Christians can be given the correct depiction of Jesus by you doing something so simple as asking to hear more of what they think. It could even be using gentle responses to someone who mocks your faith. Anything we say and do can lead to a deeper conversation with someone about Jesus. A very obvious way we can show one of the main ideas of the gospel is by forgiving others who have wronged you. We must forgive as Christians because God offers us forgiveness for our wrongdoings (even though we are undeserving of it). So, live as Christ lives, act as Christ acts, love as Christ loves, show mercy towards people even as Christ does the same for you.
Although last year has ended and new year has begun, the command to preach the Gospel has not changed. So let this year be a year of getting the word out about Christ; in whatever way God will use you to do that!
