United Through Christ

1 Corinthians 1:10 says, “Brothers and sisters, I encourage all of you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to agree with each other and not to split into opposing groups. I want you to be united in your understanding and opinions.”

The reason why we as believers have to be on one accord is because we have one goal, to please God. To do this we partner in presenting the Gospel in love, correct teaching, and truth to others around us. This cannot be done through division, but through peaceful unity. Things such as petty arguments, small differences and nuances cannot determine the steadfastness and faithfulness of us, Christ’s church. We must learn to work with each other, as we settle these small differences and lovingly put up with each other (Ephesians 4:2).

Ephesians 4:3 says, “Through the peace that ties you together, do your best to maintain the unity that the Spirit gives.” The Holy Spirit gives us the ability to work through situations together all as members of the Body of Christ.

In Psalms 133:1, it says “See how good and pleasant it is when brothers and sisters live together in harmony!” How much more effective is completing the will of God when done in unity, rather in discord and animosity. Put away your pride, put on the patience and love of Christ, have mercy on each other, forgive each other, and learn to be united through the work of the Holy Spirit (Colossians 3:3)!
